POLY-KROMA

Poly-Kroma is Cal Poly Pomona’s annual art show. In addition to the physical exhibition, there is a virtual version, which not only allows remote attendance but also reimagines the space in a way that goes beyond the bounds of physical reality. As project lead, I worked with a small team to design and build the 2024 virtual exhibition. Our team envisioned the concept of a gallery situated on the top floor of a skyscraper set in a sprawling metropolis, with a glass elevator providing an exhilarating ascent above the cityscape. Coordinating with the rest of the Poly-Kroma committee was essential for developing a design that reflects the art direction of this year’s show. More than forty student-submitted works were placed throughout the gallery, and each one has interactive functionality. In addition to the student submissions, many sculptural works and intricate details were modeled and tailored to this environment. The VR version utilizes a custom smooth locomotion system which allows for seamless navigation through the space.
